چکیده

XML retrieval, also referred to as Structured Document Retrieval is a discipline of information retrieval that focusses on the retrieval of relevant document fragments for a given information need that contains both structural and textual components. In this article we will focus on the theory behind Bricks, a visual query formulation technique for XML retrieval that aims at reducing the complexity of the query formulation process and required knowledge of the underlying document structure for the user, while maintaining full expression power, as offered by the NEXI query language for XML retrieval. In addition, we present the outcome of a large scale usability experiment, which compared Bricks to a keyword-based and a NEXI-based interface. The results showed that participants were more successful at completing a number of search assignments using Bricks or NEXI. Furthermore, we observed that the participants were also able to successfully complete their assignments in a significantly shorter period of time, when using the Bricks interface.

Prototyping a Vibrato-Aware Query-By-Humming (QBH) Music Information Retrieval System for Mobile Communication Devices: Case of Chromatic Harmonica

Background and Aim: The current research aims at prototyping query-by-humming music information retrieval systems for smart phones. Methods: This multi-method research follows simulation technique from mixed models of the operations research methodology, and the documentary research method, simultaneously. Two chromatic harmonica albums comprised the research population. To achieve the purpose ...

Comparing XML-IR Query Formation Interfaces

XML information retrieval (XML-IR) systems differ from traditional information retrieval systems by using structure of XML documents to retrieve more specific units of information than the documents themselves. Users interact with XML-IR systems via structured queries that express their content and structural requirements. Historically, it has been common belief within the XML-IR community that...

A User Interface for XML Document Retrieval

XML document retrieval requires new ideas for user interface design. The query language provides primitives for dealing with the tree structure, which needs to be reflected in an interface for query formulation. Further, the XML structure is also reflected in the retrieval results, where items may contain each other. In this paper, we present a user interface for formulating queries in an XPath...

The Role of Structural Summaries for XML Retrieval

A Structural Summary of an XML document is a dynamically generated and maintained graph structure that preserves the structural characteristics of the document in a compact form. The versatility of structural summaries has been established with their extensive usage for diverse retrieval tasks. Within traditional XML query processing those structures have been used as primary indexes on the str...

Apply Uncertainty in Document-Oriented Database (MongoDB) Using F-XML

As moving to big data world where data is increasing in unstructured way with high velocity, there is a need of data-store to store this bundle amount of data. Traditionally, relational databases are used which are now not compatible to handle this large amount of data, so it is needed to move on to non-relational data-stores. In the current study, we have proposed an extension of the Mongo...
